Villa in Athens

The photographic challenge

The villa’s white volumes sit within terraced grounds above a rocky coastline. The sea, pool and garden are closely connected, so the collection needs to explain the setting as well as the building itself.

My approach

Aerial photographs establish the relationship between the villa, the swimming pool and the surrounding headland. At ground level, views across the lawn and pool describe the stepped layout and the contrast between white facades and stone retaining walls.

Balcony and shaded terrace compositions frame the coastline through the architecture. The pergola, outdoor dining area and loungers add a sense of scale to the wider views, showing how the outdoor spaces relate to the house.

Evening photographs follow the transition from sunset to deep blue night. The illuminated pool, facade and covered seating areas give the final part of the series a quieter atmosphere while keeping the arrangement of the property clear.

The result

Commissioned by Adonis Fountis for Fountis Architects, this series presents a villa in Athens, Attica, Greece, also offered for rental and hospitality use. Exterior and aerial photography bring together the architecture, outdoor spaces and coastal setting in one coherent collection.
