PROJECT STORY

Contemporary architecture from daylight to blue hour

The brief

I photographed Villa Seafront in Paros, in the Cyclades, for Sotheby’s Greece. This collection brings together the villa’s contemporary architecture, interiors, pool terraces and coastal setting. Daylight and evening photographs provide complementary views of the property, showing both the clarity of its forms and the atmosphere of its illuminated spaces.

The photographic challenge

The white volumes, stone walls and grey shutters create a precise architectural composition, while the pool and sea introduce reflections and a much wider horizon. The photographs needed to hold those elements together without allowing the setting to overwhelm the building.

Changing light adds another dimension. In daylight, the pergolas cast strong linear shadows and the facades read as clear geometric surfaces. At dusk and after dark, windows and exterior lighting become more prominent. A consistent series needs to accommodate those differences while keeping the materials and spatial relationships recognisable.

My approach

I used views across the pool to establish the main facade and its relationship to the terrace. Other exterior compositions follow the garden paths, boardwalk and planted edges, placing the villa within its coastal surroundings. The outdoor dining area and kitchen are photographed at a closer scale, where the pergola structure and its shadows organise the image.

Inside, the photographs focus on the balance between pale upholstery, timber furniture and the darker floor. A large window brings the sea into the living room; the dining table and minimal kitchen extend the sequence into the adjoining spaces. Facade and stairwell details offer a pause between the wider views.

The evening photographs revisit the living areas and move outside to the illuminated entrance, windows and garden. The selected blue-hour cover brings the white and stone architecture, pool reflections and terrace lighting together in one view.

The result

The completed collection presents Villa Seafront across a broad range of spaces and lighting conditions. Architectural views describe its form, interior photographs establish the scale and character of the rooms, and the evening sequence adds a more intimate atmosphere. Together, they create a coherent visual presentation of the villa for a luxury property audience, with the sea and the Paros setting present throughout.
