Walanka — Classic Yacht Photography in Corfu

Photographed in Corfu, in Greece’s Ionian Islands, Walanka brings the character of a classic motor yacht into a setting of open water, wooded shores and changing light. Built by Hall, Russell & Co. in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1963, the yacht has a distinctive presence: long horizontal lines, curved deck edges and warm timber details. This thirteen-image series moves from her exterior profile to the saloon, outdoor living areas and working spaces, then closer to the surfaces and fittings that give the vessel her individual identity.

A classic yacht in the waters of Corfu

The opening photograph shows Walanka from the water as the low sun reaches around the stern. The side of the yacht catches cooler reflections from the sea, while the light picks out the rail and the shape of the aft deck. It is a view that establishes both the vessel’s proportions and her relationship with the surrounding water. The sky and distant shoreline provide context without competing with the yacht herself.

On deck, pale upholstered seating follows the curve of the rail, with a timber walkway drawing the eye towards the sea. Another view looks back towards the bridge, showing the layered profile of the superstructure and the symmetry of its windows. Together, these photographs connect the overall form of Walanka with the places from which those aboard experience the Ionian landscape.

Timber interiors and life on deck

Inside the saloon, polished timber cabinetry and wall panels frame soft upholstery, curtains and low tables. Daylight enters through the windows and the open doorway, linking the enclosed room with the deck beyond. The photograph describes a comfortable living space while retaining a clear reading of its layout. Warm lamps, framed photographs and books add a more personal scale to the interior.

The outdoor sequence continues into the evening. A carefully laid dining table sits beneath the canopy, with illuminated table lights reflected in its polished surface. Beyond the seating, the sea and shoreline settle into blue and violet tones. A wider deck photograph brings the dining and lounge areas into one composition, balancing the canopy’s structure, the furniture and the open horizon. The change in light reveals a different atmosphere within the same spaces.

Details that tell the vessel’s story

Closer views give time to the timber rail, a curved slatted bench and a metal fitting set into wood. Grain, reflections and the marks on these surfaces introduce a tactile dimension alongside the wider photographs. The builder’s plaque records Walanka’s origins in Aberdeen in 1963. Images of the bridge, engine room and galley complete the sequence by showing the working spaces alongside the areas for relaxation.
