Walanka

The photographic challenge

A yacht offers a different kind of space from a building. Curved rails, compact interiors and views across the water create their own visual relationships. With Walanka, I want the exterior profile and the smaller timber details to belong to the same story. Reflections and changing light are part of that character, but the photographs still need to describe the vessel clearly rather than becoming only studies of atmosphere.

My approach

The opening view shows Walanka on the water in Corfu, with low sunlight reaching around the stern. It establishes the long horizontal lines and the shape of the aft deck against the sea and wooded shoreline. Other deck photographs move closer, following pale seating, curved rails and the timber walkway.

Inside the saloon, timber cabinetry and wall panels surround pale upholstery, curtains and low tables. I keep the open doorway visible to connect the interior with the deck. Lamps, books and framed photographs add a personal scale, while the room's arrangement remains understandable.

The evening dining photographs introduce a different mood. Table lights, glassware and pale seating sit beneath the canopy, with the sea turning blue beyond. A wider view brings the lounge and dining areas together, allowing the overhead structure and open horizon to frame the furnishings.

Closer photographs of the varnished handrail, slatted bench and metal fitting give attention to surfaces that would be lost in the wider views. The builder's plaque records Hall, Russell & Co., Aberdeen, Scotland, and 1963. I include it as a visible part of the vessel's history.

The bridge, engine room and galley complete the collection. These working spaces add information beyond the areas used for relaxation, giving a fuller account of Walanka's character.

The result

This project brings my architectural and interior photography approach into a marine setting in the Ionian Islands of Greece. The sequence gives owners and marine businesses a range of perspectives on the yacht: overall form, living spaces, craftsmanship and functional areas. I aim to keep those views consistent while allowing the vessel's own materials and proportions to lead the presentation.
