PROJECT STORY
Stone, timber and the changing light.
The photographic challenge
Villa Vicanti has a different character from a pale coastal villa. Stone walls, timber ceilings and deeper interior tones give it warmth, but they also need light and viewpoint to reveal their texture. The pool and garden should explain the house's setting without distracting from the architecture. I approach the collection with both scales in mind: the whole property in the landscape, and the individual spaces that make it feel lived in.
My approach
The exterior series begins across the pool, where the stone facade, tiled roofs and covered terraces can be seen together. Aerial photographs extend that view, showing the arrangement of the villa, water, decks and grounds in Mesochori, near Pylos in the Peloponnese. The overhead pool composition is more graphic, giving the selection a different rhythm while still explaining the layout.
At ground level, I move through the garden rather than staying with the main elevation. The hammock, stone paths, seating beneath a tree and entrance gates show the routes and quieter corners around the house. The garden photographs give the wider architecture a sense of scale and use.
Inside, the materials become the focus. The living and dining rooms combine timber furniture, exposed beams and stone. The kitchen's yellow cabinetry adds a distinct note of colour, while the bedrooms introduce different arrangements of furniture, fireplaces and balcony openings. I look for compositions that describe the room clearly and retain the depth in the darker finishes.
The wine cellar brings another atmosphere into the sequence. Its stone walls, bottles, barrels and objects call for a closer reading than the open living spaces. It is included as part of the villa's character rather than treated as a separate project.
The sunset and twilight photographs return outdoors. Pool reflections and warm light beneath the covered dining terrace bring out details that are less prominent by day. This gives the collection a natural progression from the setting to the rooms and back to the garden.
The result
The series connects Villa Vicanti's architecture with the texture and atmosphere of its interiors. For villa owners and managers, aerial context, room views and evening photographs provide different ways of introducing the same property. This is the balance I seek in residential photography in Greece: a faithful account of the spaces, with the light and materials allowed to give each project its own identity.
